Roseate Spoonbills - Species of Special Concern

You Must Choose a "Print Size" Before Adding Item To Your Shopping Basket.
A major period of decline for the spoonbill occurred in the early 1800’s when the wings of this beautiful bird were made into fans.  In the late 1800’s the millinery “hat trade” also took a heavy toll on the spoonbill.  During this period the great demand for plumes of the egrets and other wading birds were more valuable per ounce then gold.

The feathers of the Spoonbill were never in as great of demand as the plumes of the egrets because they faded, the spoonbills were still slaughtered along with many plume birds, and their numbers declined.
